Bishop Mar John Panamthottathil
Bishop John Panamthottathil CMI, born on May 31, 1966, in Peravoor, Kerala, India, joined the CMI order and completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at Dharamaram College. He was ordained as a priest on December 26, 1997, after making his First and Solemn Professions in 1986 and 1994, respectively.
Throughout his ministry, Bishop John held positions as an assistant parish priest, Provincial Superior of the CMI Kozhikode Province, and actively supported the Syro-Malabar communities while serving as an assistant parish priest and later as a parish priest in Australia.
He also served in India as the prior of St. Elias Ashram, a Parish Priest, and an English teacher. In January 2023, he was appointed by Pope Francis as the second bishop of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy in Melbourne and was ordained and installed on May 31, 2023, by Cardinal George Alencherry. Bishop John's unwavering commitment to serving God and the Church is evident in his life and ministry.
